Saints Peter and Paul Church is a Roman Catholic Church. It is located at 666 Filbert Street in San Francisco. The church is across from the Washington Square. It is a place cherished by lots of people because of it’s beautiful architectural and interior designs.

Saints Peter and Paul Church History

It was first founded by Salesian priests in 1884, but it was destroyed during the fire and earthquake incident that rocked San Francisco. After the earthquake, it was rebuilt and completed in 1924.

The Saints Peter and Paul is also known as the center of worship for the Chinese American and Italian American community of San Francisco. It offers weekly masses in Cantonese, Latin, and English. The church has since become more of a cultural center for the Latin and Chinese community. The church became very prominent in 1954 when famous baseball player Joe Di Maggio and actress Marilyn Monroe took pictures of their wedding at the church and posted pictures of the event. Since then, it has become well-known for hosting wedding occasions almost every Saturday. At times, multiple weddings are hosted in the Church in a single day.

Saints Peter and Paul Church is also referred to as ‘The Italian Cathedral of the West’ or ‘Marzipan Church’. The magnificent edifice features twin Gothic inspired spires. It also features a brightly colored rose window that displays a picture of Christ surrounded by His twelve disciples. Within the Church is another stunning marble altar made of different colors. Everything about the Church is reminiscent of an Italian cathedral.

Saints Peter and Paul Church has been featured in several movies. Some of these movies include the recent Deadpool, San Andreas, as well as Dirty Harry.
