Over one hundred and fifty million years ago, relatives of redwood trees and sequoia trees were abundant throughout the USA. Currently, in today’s world, the Sequoia sempervirens can only be seen from Oregon, down to Monterey California.  Prior to the logging industry that took over CA, the old-growth forest was abundant with 2+ million acres along the Pacific.

The majority of these redwood and Sequoia forests had been reduced at the beginning of the 20th century. About the northern part of the San Francisco Bay, California, one valley called Redwood Canyon still remained without being cut down. This was because of the inaccessibility, for the most part.

It is also important to note that in the year 1908 on January 9, President Theodore Roosevelt made a declaration that the land to be a National Monument.
