Prior to it becoming a park, it was formerly a cemetery, where immigrants of the Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese and Serbian residents were buried. For a long period, Lincoln Park was the only public golf course in all of San Francisco. The course was built and completed in 1902 and was in memory of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln Park’s golf course, since 1917, has been the host of the annual San Francisco City Championship. Its also home to the junior championship. Access to the golf course costs about $20—$35.

The Legion of Honor museum was also built in 1924, in dedication to the lives of the soldiers of California who fought and lost their lives during the World War 1. The museum was a gift of sugar magnate, Adolph Speckles and his family. It contains a huge collection of paintings, ceramics drawings sculpture, and prints from all over the world. It also houses the biggest collection of graphic design works in the Western part of America. The park was built as a replica of the Legion of Honor in Paris, France. And it is one of the biggest tourist destinations in San Francisco.

Lincoln Park is also known to be a good spot for hiking, running and exercising. It also features a playground for children and has lush spots where you can enjoy a picnic with friends and family.

The park is owned by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. It is opened from Sunday to Tuesday as early as 7 am till sunset.
