City College of San Francisco is a public community situated in San Francisco, California, United States. It was established as a junior college in the year 1935. Every year the college enrolls as many as one in nine San Francisco residents. Due to this, the college plays a vital local role for the community.  The college is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Covering the whole San Francisco Community College District, this city college is the only community college in San Francisco. The colleges largest location includes the Westwood Park and Ingleside neighborhoods. In addition, this college also has other campuses in the South San Francisco, Financial District, South of Market, Little Saigon, Bayview Hunters Point, North of Panhandle, Marina District and also Mission District.

The college offers courses in more than 50 academic programs and also over 100 occupational disciplines.

History of the college

The establishment of a junior college in San Francisco has long been the dream and aspiration of Archibald Jeter Cloud. Mr. Cloud was the Chief Deputy Superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District. Archibald Jeter Cloud worked to convince the San Francisco Board of Education of the need for a junior college in the Depression era. Archibald Jeter Cloud presented a fiscal study in the year 1934. As a result, this study allowed the Board to look into the availability of Federal and State funding. However, this college was founded by the Board of Education of the San Francisco Unified School District. This happened on February 15, 1934. But the City College of San Francisco was officially opened on August 26, 1935, as the San Francisco Junior College.
