Twin Peaks San Francisco

Twin Peaks Facts

Formerly called ‘Les Pehos de la Choca’ which translates to The Breast of the Maiden; Twin Peaks in San Francisco are two hills adjacent to each other and the stand over 900 feet high. They are also known as Eureka and Joe – the North Pea and the South Peak respectively.

They are the second-highest hills in San Francisco, after Mount Davidson, which is about 33 feet higher than them. These hills are largely uninhabited meaning they still retain their original form.

Offering a 360-degree view of San Francisco, Twin Peaks is one of the best places with the best view. The 360-degree view is of the city and the bay area. You can also see other sites like the Bay Bridge, Market Street, Golden Gate Bridge, and others right from the Twin Peaks.

They are also easy to climb, which means they are good for hiking. The peaks are also great to enjoy the cool breeze from the pacific ocean from the north of the hills.

Due to the uninhabited nature of the hills, there will be plants and animals that you will get to see as you hike the hills. Normally you wouldn’t see these animals on a regular day, especially the Mission Blue Butterfly that is already endangered. Other rare animals include the Red Tail Hawk and opossums.

What to wear

It is highly advisable also that you make sure to go along with warmer clothes as it gets chilly on top of the hills, but aside from that, it is a beautiful place to explore and enjoy nature.

Also, when visiting the Twin Peaks, be sure to get there as early as possible, as it is a popular tourist area. It is quite easy to get there by car or public transportation via Market Street.

You should probably get a tour guide to help you around, especially if you intend to hike the hills. Check out our next article about Fisherman’s Wharf.
