This facility has one of the last few remaining Episcopal choirs comprised of boys and men. As such, the choir is comprised of 24 boys, which also attend the school onsite. The other 12 in the choir are professional and are men.

History of the Grace Cathedral

The Grace Cathedral’s ancestral parish was called the Grace Church. It was started in 1849. The initial small chapel was built in the year 1849 and also the cumbersome third church. This 3rd church was burned down a blaze not long after a massive earthquake in 1906.

The cathedral has many pieces of art by Jan Henryk De Rosen.  Within these works includes faux-tile mural. This mural is behind the Chapel of Grace reredos. Another one of the major works which are visible of Jan Henryk De Rosen in the Grace Cathedral is the historical aisle murals. These aisle murals had been painted between 1949 and 1950. These murals were comprised of styles of two different Italian artists. These two greats were Giotto and Mantegna.
